While the West is still caught in endless debates on subsidies and counter-productive lobbies from petroleum and coal coalitions, China is producing electric cars and surely refining them. (more…)

A Little Bit, A Little Bit There, The Future Of The Electric Drive Is Being Built

Sometimes the most frustrating part of seeing new technology develop and hitting the road is actually not seeing more out there.  However, with electric vehicles, EV, and they hybrid, HEV and plug-in hybrid, PHEV cousins, things are moving along just fine, even though car makers are still trying to squeeze as much as they can from gas cars. Electric Vehicle, Daily News, Part 2

What else is new in the wild and exciting world of electric vehicles, EV?  There it is…

SAIC Joins The Foray.  Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) Group wants to invest $292 million to develop electric-gasoline and electric cars, according to China Daily.  There you go, after BYD, it’s SAIC’s turn.

Testing Hybrid Batteries.  We are relentless, but hybrid batteries look like the best solution for electric cars.  Hybrid batteries?  Using two sorts of batteries, mostly lithium and ultracapcitators and as the IEEE Spectrum writes, new souped-up version of lead-acid batteries and ultracapcitators are being tested.  Credential from the IEEE will surely add a lot of weight to a combination that makes a lot of sense, we think.

Thin Line For Thin Film Leaders.  At least, not all is doom and gloom in the U.S., with news of the thin solar film industry in the U.S. that could gain international leadership, according to Seeking Alpha. And what about hope for other alternative energy solutions in the U.S.?  This surely is a reminder that a door closing means others are opening.  It isn’t that far stretched to see the U.S. become a key player in the alternative energy industry of tomorrow.

Another 914 Switched.  Remember our article on the possibility to convert a Porsche 914 to electricity?  Here is anotehr flavor according to the IEEE Spectrum.  This one is a little it more cutting edge and obviously more expensive.  $5000 for the car, $36 000 of lithium batteries, it’s no Tesla but it’s so much fun.

Subaru’s Big EV.  When we think of electric vehicles, EV we never think of them as being spacious.  Subaru has worked on that with their Stella, according to TechOn.

And that’s it for today.  Stay tuned for more.
