Extra Electric Vehicle Review

Some intresting news this weekend we feel should be mentioned.

Electrifying Smart! According to HybridCars, electric versions of the Smart have been on the streets of London since late 2007.  The newer versions won’t used their Zebra battery pack and swtich to Lithium increasing the range from 62 to 100 miles.

France’s EDF partners with Peugeot.  After striking a partnership with Renault, EDF is now working with Peugeot tp work on electric vehicles, EV.  A smart move for any utilities to work closer with car manufacturers, assuring a more relevant tomorrow.

RUF Electric Porsche 911. Not so rough but surely a little on the plump side, the RUF EV will be based on a 997 platform with a three-phase AC motor rated at 200 hp, 0 to 62 in less than 7 seconds, topping out at 160 mph, the range will be around 180 miles .  The flip side is that it will weigh over 4000lbs.

U.S. Waits, China Goes Ahead. That pretty much summs up shy mainstream car  manufacturers in the U.S. while China’s BYD goes ahead with lithium batteries for cars in China.  And let’s not forget that with a little help from friends, Warren E. Buffett invested $230 million to take a 10% stake in BYD Auto’s parent company, which probably explains why BYD is jumping on the badwaggon even sooner than other paralyzed car makers.

Voila for today
