Here is part 2 of worldwide news around electric vehicle, EV and related stories.
Hybrid Waste Management. Good news in the often forgotten field of heavy trucks embracing hybrid, HEV technology but it seems Waste Management, Inc. is testing parallel hydraulic hybrid-diesel trucks to study the system’s efficiency and reliability, according to FleetOwner.
Detroit’s Good News. Finally a good news story from Detroit, this one talking about what new plug-in hybrid, PHEV cars will be coming out soon. Case in point, we have heard a lot about the Volt, but Ford has been working hard on converting its already impressive Ford Escape into a PHEV, according to ABCOnline. Nancy Gioia, who is one of Ford’s director of hybrids says: “You go out on the road, up to 45 to 47 miles per hour. You can run on pure electric vehicle energy for up to 30 miles… you can get up to 120 miles per gallon,”. As a side note, Ford’s Escape has truly impressive numbers for an SUV, even beating HEV sedans with city average gas mileage of 34mpg. Considering most full size SUVs get around 16mpg and sedans around 25 to 30, the Escape is a winner in its category.
ISE Get $17.5 million. Continuing its march to improve its hybrid drive system, ISE grabbed $17.5 million of funding with the help of Siemens Venture Capital, with Macquarie Clean Technology Fund, DTE Energy Ventures, and return investors RockPort Capital Partners and NGP Energy Technology Partners also participating, according to Red Herring.
That’s it for part 2, stay tuned for part 3 and more.
