While the world moves into a greener alternative energy tomorrow, the EU places a new Energy Chief.

The gist is that our global systems are so convoluted, we need elected officials to create rules and help implement them.  This is the reason behind Gunther Oettinger newly appointed EU Energy Chief position.

The EU Energy Chief.  With the replacement of Andris Piebalgs, Gunther Oettinger will head the EU as Energy Chief which was met with lukewarm enthusiasm from the European Wind Energy Association, EWEA.

EWEA.  The EWEA welcomed Oettinger saying he had raised targets for renewables to 20% of electricity by 2020, up from 11.8% in 2006.  On another note however, the association said there was still little wind energy production his region of Baden-Württemberg, Germany.  Indeed, with wind energy only currently providing less than 0.5% of electricity, this is well below the EU average and makes the association question whether or not Oettinger is the right person.

In all fairness, alternative energy production has increased under his service and the EU has certainly set the bar high.  It will be a tough job and we can only praise the union for aiming high.
