Fiat Chrysler, Still Working On EVs

Chrysler is still working on an electric vehicle, EV, to be available soon.

The gist is that after a rough transition for Chrysler’s bankruptcy and the FIAT take over, Chrysler is said to still be working on an EV.  The EV project could be announced as early as November 4th.

From Circuit To Peapod.  According to Alfredo Altavilla, a Chrysler board member, the new EV concept will not be our favorite EV Circuit, but something closer to a neighborhood electric vehicle, NEV something closer to a Peapod, via the WSJ, subscription required.

While this may be a disappointment to many, it is probably a way for Chrysler to come out of its slumber and show it is still alive and well.  The obvious choice for an electric vehicle, EV would be the EV Circuit, which Chrysler’s ENVI group has worked for so long.  Another intelligent contender would be the European red hot Fiat 500.  Fiat has dealt a serious coup for the competition with its small sub-compact European performance bomb.  The car is a natural for an electric conversion, as was done by Nice.

In the meantime, Chrysler is probably stalling for time as it will import more fuel efficient Fiat designs and regain some profitability before it commercializes highway capable EVs.
