Is Abu Dhabi the next alternative energy capital?

Is Abu Dhabi becoming the next alternative energy capital of the world?

The gist is that when we think of Dubai, we think of rich petroleum fields and OPEC oil more than solar power.  However, the city has been pushing to make sure it has a future in an impending post petroleum era.  So far, they have bought into alternative energy and even own a little of Tesla Motors.

Massive Solar Energy.  If the current trend of putting expensive photovoltaic panels on buildings works well for now, it is not a bad idea to see what will be next.  Abu Dhabi is working on a way to put massive solar energy tower on top of a building as a project.  The results are impressive.

The Almeisan Tower project, designed for Za’abeel park in Dubai would be a home to an observation deck, a cafe, a children’s library and community meeting space.  What makes it even more interesting is that not only it would power its own energy but also that of several neighboring buildings, making it a potential powerhouse.

While it is hard to say whether or not a project such as this would even see the light in most Western countries, their inherent utility infrastructure could stand in the way unless they found a way to built it, operate it or maintain it.
