You have to hand it to those brave few car makers working on pure electric vehicles, EV in the midst of this financial meltdown. They could not have found a better time.
The gist is that engineering a car costs millions and takes years to manage. Car makers, such as Nissan, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Renault and the newly formed Tesla Motors, Commuter Cars and AC Propulsion are doing the unimaginable, bringing out an entirely new technology in the middle of a financial slump.
There Is Not Better Time Then The Present! According to Reuters, Nissan is taking advantage of the precarious state their competitors are in to bypass them. We quote the car company saying: “the economic crisis had hammered automakers, the company is in a perfect position to benefit from government loans thanks to its big push in the field of zero-emission cars.” In many ways, this is the perfect storm to take advantage of. The temporary government support will help kick launch zero-emission cars as a viable business for Nissan once mass-production and marketing begin in 2012.
Is GM Waking Up? In the middle of its bankruptcy chapter, GM could be finally waking up to the reality that advanced hybrid platforms will not be a lasting solution. While most of the industry starts to plan the inevitable electric vehicles, EV the car maker is hinting at future electric plans. It has now confirmed it will launch a new plug-in electric SUV next year that will be part of the 2011 SUV lineup to include new hybrid cars and plug-in vehicles, via NewsOXY.
It is good to see car makers planning for the future and this is something GM was lacking by focusing only on its plug-in hybrid.
