Electric drive for the environment

The promise of electric vehicles, EVs is a welcome relief for our taxed environment but it will truly be successful when clean alternative energy solution will shoulder the biggest part of our energy demand.

  • Lightning GTS News.  Things have been quiet on the Lightning GTS side and news is coming in that the company expects to build two more, via AllCarsElectric.  Apparently a limo-sized model is planned, as well as a high-end chauffeur-driven car with electric power for executives.
  • iMiEV By July.  Mitsubishi has announced the launch of the iMiEV in Japan by July, according to Reuters for $47,580.
  • Mini E CARB Loophole.  In a controversial move, Plug In America has started pushing for resolutions on what it calls loopholes in CARB.  CARB would allow BMW, maker of the Mini E to earn the same credit towards the state’s clean vehicle program as standard production cars with their one-year pilot program.  A sliding scale adjustment might be fair.
  • Australian Advanced Hybrid Buses.  Great news for Australia who adopts a series and parallel hybrid system for its Victoria buses, via GreenCarCongress.
  • 70% More Hitachi Lithium Manufacturing.  If recession is hindering car makers, some battery companies are forging ahead, as with Hitachi raising its production by 70% for its lithium batteries for hybrids, HEV and electric vehicles, EVs, via GreenCarCongress.  Indeed, NewScientist reports that despite a recession, te electric vehicle industry and alternative energy is not slowly down but also has achieved a boost in funding that came from mostly private hands.

And now for a video of an electric Pinto dragster…

Fascinating, as Spock might have said.  Or would it have been interesting?

That’s it for now.  Stay tuned for more.
