Can you feel the relative calm before the storm? That is the sound of car manufacturers ironing out the kinks in business models, entrepreneurs battling relevancy and technology companies joining in the fray to make tomorrow’s electric transportation a reality.
- Antro, A Small Carbon Footstep. There is no lack of ingenuity when it comes to the new electric vehicles, EV popping out on the market these days. What is surprising, or maybe should not be that surprising is that they mostly comes from startups, as in the Antro Solo, found on NextCarGreen that weighs only 600lbs, goes up to 80mph and gets 150mpg for $18,000 in Europe 2012.
- GE Will Not Be Left Behind. The Transportation side of the company is building a manufacturing plant for advanced storage batteries in upstate New York for $100 million, according to ABT.
- ZMag, Covering Electric And Hybrids. A great magazine you can also read online that covers what we like, EVs and HEVs, ZMags. In this issue you can read about Daimler’s upcoming Smart EV, the new Honda Insight, Chrysler EV plans, Fiat and Peugeot‘s hybrids.
- USABC Fund. The United States Advanced Battery Consortium, USABC with the U.S. Department of Energy, DOE was awarded $2.3 million for its battery separator technology development contract to Celgard, LLC, a global supplier of material for lithium-ion batteries whose members are Chrysler LLC, Ford Motor Company and General Motors Corporation, to develop lithium-ion battery separator technology for hybrid-electric and plug-in hybrid-electric vehicle applications, according to USCAR.
