The future of the Volt looks good, so don’t get bogged down by doom and gloom spread in the news. The Volt will most likely survive and be a platform for many upcoming vehicles, once GM comes out of its restructuring procedure.
The gist is that GM had to go into a restructuring mode. It was too heavy and had no choice. So what will happen to the Volt and its surrounding technology?
The Volt’s Future. The Volt’s future is well assured, since it is the company’s number one asset. The Voltec is primarily a series plug-in hybrid platform that could house future sleek two seaters to heavier SUVs. MarketWatch even goes as far as saying the company is still on track to deliver the Chevy Volt by 2011.
While we can’t predict in what state GM will come out of the bankruptcy system, nor if its image will survive it in the long run, one thing is for certain, GM has acquired a lot of experience with its Voltec. It has already tested it which is worth something, at least to interested other auto makers. GM has two obvious choices when facing the future. Continue and hope it will make it, overturning a negative image and pushing through at least 5 years of selling frugal gas cars while it perfect its Voltec platform. Or, it will sell off its technology, Voltec included. In any case, the Volt will survive. Whether it will have a Chevy badge, or even a GM one is another story.
