That is the question, which commercial electric vehicle to choose?
The gist is that the commercial vehicle sector has been looking for ways to cut fuel consumption costs for some time now. Europe has mostly opted for diesel, while Asia has used smaller, more efficient gas engines. The commercial electric vehicle, EV tends to gain its greatest appeal in this industry.
The Renault Kangoo EV Z.E.. We mentioned earlier the new Renault Kangoo that will have an
electric version. Using the same technology Nissan and Renault have been working on for their upcoming EVs, Renault wants to appeal to gas budget conscious companies.
Technically Speaking. The EV will use a Powered by a 44kW electric motor backed by a 15kwh lithium-ion battery pack. The EV will be charged in 6 to 8 hours under a regular 220 Volt socket. The full charge could also be applied 30-minutes charge using a 400 V three phase socket, Renault said, according to the
InternationalBusinessTimes.
The Ford EV Transit. On the other hand, we have the Ford Transit with an electric version due out soon. Based on Ford Europe's Transit design, the car shouldn't be too difficult to convert to electricity.
Technically Speaking. The EV Transit should be able to carry 1,760 pounds of cargo to a maximum range of 100 miles, according to
Jalopnik. The entry level will get you 60 miles, with an option for a 100 mile range available.
Smith Electric Vehicles will install the batteries, power control module, and 50 KW drive unit.
So far, the two EVs seem evenly matched and would be a great choice for small companies, independent consultants and even the bigger delivery ones. What will be the deciding factor? The obvious glare is that the Transit will be available in the U.S. and Europe but not word yet on the Kangoo.
