Chrysler’s ENVI Future And Fiat, Which One?

In a certain way, we shouldn’t get to attached to the beautiful Dodge Circuit electric vehicle, EV.  We might not ever see it on our roads.  With the bankruptcy and the Fiat merger, Fiat stands on firmer grounds than Chrysler to push its own products.  But does that mean the end of ENVI?

The gist is that Fiat comes on board as the stronger party and it will be interesting to see what they will want to do with the ENVI team.  Although Fiat doesn’t have its own electric drive department and none of its cars have been officially converted to electricity, both companies have been working on future plans.  Now what?

Electric Fiat 500 Promise.  Obviously the best way to introduce an EV for a company is to start small and light, while developing bigger ones.  The Fiat 500 E is the way to go for Fiat.  With its Micro-Vett system using a lithium-polymer battery pack by Kokam rated at 22kWh will give it a 70 miles range and top speed of 60mph.

Another contender would be the Alfa Romeo MiTo, set to compete with the BMW Mini E.

What About Chrysler’s ENVI? Even if Chrysler is coming to the table bruise and ruined, it still has a department that has done a lot of work on the electric drive in three format Americas love, sports car, SUV and Minivan.  The sport car is the Dodge Circuit we’ve covered many times before here.  The others would find a market in the U.S. and won’t be left out in the dark.

It would be safe to think Fiat will want to push on its light platform in the shape and form of Fiat and the performance centered Alfa Romeo while using some of ENVI’s technology.  We can only hope both will coexist so that we could see on our garages a Circuit, an electric MiTo along others.
