Ford is trying to make all the right moves with an upcoming electric car despite a late start and working against a global crisis, topped by a precarious financial situation. It’s hard to imagine Ford focusing on alternative energy, but if Ford Jr. finally has his way, the future looks bright for the beleaguered company.
The gist is that Ford was touch and go for a moment and even when the most serious contenders for the electric drive of tomorrow were working on electric vehicles, EV, Ford was only interested in developing its internal combustion engine, ICE. If this move was a short term strategic one, it didn’t do much for their future or how they would tackle the future of EVs. However, things have changed now.
Ford Electric Car. Apparently Ford sees the light when they reported working on the Ford Focus to electrify it. The Focus is the perfect conversion platform. It has a strong following and good ratings. It is small, and light enough to be successfully converted to electricity. Ford figured the Magna electric Focus prototype made sense and has agreed to develop it further. Source the Wall Street Journal, Reuters.
Adding our two cents here, it’s too bad Ford redesigned the look of the new Focus. We felt the previous European version looked great and didn’t have those 70s looking fake chromes. None the less, it’s a good move in the right direction.
Ford Turns SUV Factory To Electric. The other bit of good news is that Ford is now switching strategy at its Michigan Truck Plant SUV factory to to build electric and next-generation versions of its compact Ford Focus, according to GreenBiz.
Good news from the beleaguered car maker who is turning around on its own. We hope to see the electric Focus out soon.
