There has been a flurry of alternative energy for electricity lately in the news, but which ones make sense in the long run?
The gist is that that last part is the key, “in the long run”. Obviously, the long run would be clean, renewable alternative energy. Probably by then, it won’t even be called “alternative energy” anymore. But until we get there, there are present issues we need to deal with, namely our business structure.
If It Was That Simple. Decade long strategies based on more or less quick return on profits have left environmental issues on the back burner. Of course, the consequence are dire. It’s as if we weren’t content shooting ourselves in the foot in the first place, by now aiming for the other foot. Lobbyist have replaced common sense in the political arena, as myopic vision of the future condemns the healths of millions.
Making Electricity Out Of Waste. Nothing jolts the human ingenuity more than a good old fashion economic crisis. New ways of creating energy are coming left and right. Using pig urine, cow manure, people heat and recapping people’s footsteps in crowded hallways, have been some of the more intriguing ideas. Nestle is even kindly donating the cocoa shelves to coal utilities to see if it can be mixed with coal. The good news is that it can. Biofuels are making headlines but no one talks about the pollution factor which is becoming a heavier financial drains on our systems.
But one question still remains. Why don’t we just leave solutions that pollute behind and solely concentrate on clean, renewable energy? Surely by now, whether or not you believe in global warming, scientists are backing it with a wall of evidence. Why not think of the long term problems we will face that will cost us more financial health care money later? Utopia or common sense? What do you think?
