There is something uncanny about seeing a hybrid, HEV parked in front of an Indy race car paddock. Signs of changing times? Time to move on? We’ll let you consider it.
The gist is what is a blog that devotes its time to electric vehicles, EVs and other electric drive technology talking about the Long Beach Grand Prix? Well, because the electric drive can be seen moving into territories it would have been laughed at, even a year ago.
EVs Invade GPs. OK, it’s not yet an invasion but it certainly seems the electric drive is showing up everywhere. We talked to the LMP1 team Acura Patron about technology and asked them if they had any plans to go hybrid. We didn’t get a no and the answer was more along the lines of depending on budget. In fact, the new Acura Patron was designed to take into consideration new technologies, i.e. hybrid, HEV system. We also found out next year we should probably see an electric Sports Prototype. Zytec is supposed to be working on an HEV prototype racer also. It makes perfect sense since Sports Prototypes are much more technical than other races and it would be a good introduction.
The Electric Dragster Is Back. We met with Michael Kadie from SSI-Racing and his incredible Daytona Coupe reproduction turned electric. Michael has created the best of both world, the beauty of a 60s racer with the advanced technology of an electric drive. And Michael drag races his, with success. More to come on that topic.
Yes, just as beautiful car that hasn’t lost its appeal in 50 years.
Next we’ll cover the other cars that made it and Ford’s Fusion hybrid.
