The Electric Car Shows Up At Grand Prix

We are obviously working behind schedule but we thought we might show you want happened and what to look forward to.

The gist is, as we’ve said before the Long Beach Grand Prix is different in many ways from other GP in as it is a street course, which makes from more technical driving and also draws many local startups and experts.

We met many people who had either converted their cars or worked feverishly to make the electric dream happen.  Commuter Cars were there and we got up and close with their funky Tango.  Aptera showed up for a lap around the track, accompanied with a Tesla Roadster and a superb electric Daytona Coupe all set up for drag racing.  There also was a beautiful electric Porsche Speedster that wowed many a crowd.

What was fascinating was the turn out of experts and knowledgeable people there.  But nothing, nothing trumps the look on people’s faces when they find out a little more about electric cars.  While you have the obvious obtuse ones, the ones that cannot wrap their minds around the electric drive, those who go a little further by listening are astounded.  Yes, a top of the line Tango is just shy of a Corvette Z06 performance and that is a big wow factor at an American GP.  Zero Motorcycles were there but unfortunately didn’t get to do the lap in front of the crowd.  Too bad.

There also was Ford with its Lifeguard version of the Escape Hybrid, as well as showing the Fusion Hybrid, which we have to admit in white looks much better than the version they previously showed in dark gray.  The car actually looks good and the interior was well done.

All in all we were happy to renew with our old friends, make new ones and see the swelling rank of electric car enthusiasts.  As time goes by, we are sure many will consolidate, some will fall by the way side but ultimately the original goal, that of having fun with a “greener” car will always be intact, the electric carshows up a Grand Prix.  We will have more to talk about soon.
