Electric Cars Coming In With All Shapes

It’s a field that is getting wider and wider as the choice of electric vehicles, EV is getting better and better.

  • Texas Senate Clean Its Air.  The Texas Senate approved a sweeping clean-air bill, according to the Chron.  The legislation passed on a preliminary vote of 22-9.
  • Controlling High Energy With Hybrids.  A great technical article from EDN that should explain the intricacies of controlling hybrid, HEV voltage and should keep you busy for a little while.
  • 90% renewable Energy Capacity By 2012? That is a heartwarming number coming from the , according to Seeking Alpha.  The growth of energy is all in renew ables, with aapproximately 90% of the new electrical capacity brought on line in the U.S. by 2012, according to a new study from the Prometheus Institute.
  • NY Auto Show? Sobriety and alternative drive reigns, according to the Wall Street Journal.
  • Lithium And Ultracapacitor Go-Kart.   Wayland High School students from MIT went to Monaco and won best student paper presentation for their electric go-kart powered by batteries, with regenerative braking coupled to an ultra capacitor for reusing energy created, according to WickedLocal.
  • Tesla’s Daimler/Smart ForTwo.  According to SFGate, it could be priced below $20,000.

Interesting Numbers: According to the California Cars Initiative, the cost of running a car on electricity is equivalent to paying 75 cents a gallon for gasoline.

Interesting Books: In 1900, 28% of all cars produced were electric, but 20 years later the industry was all but dead, according to Michael Brian Schiffer, author of a history of electric cars in the U.S..
