Have we had enough of car picture teases? Here comes the Bright IDEA plug-in hybrid, PHEV picture “leaks”.
The gist is that it’s very a la mode to “leak” teaser pictures of what lies beneath the cloak. But indeed, what does lie beneath this new tease from Bright Automitive?
Another Plug-In Hybrid Soon. Bright Automotive announced, earlier than expected their plug-in hybrid vehicle, PHEV called the IDEA, according to CNET. The twist? The company will unveil a prototype for a light-duty vehicle, that will come in pick-up trucks, SUVs, and sedans platforms. It will be shown on Capital Hill in Washington, DC, April 21.
Technically Speaking. The IDEA will have an electric range of 30 miles, with a full range of 400 miles with its gas engine, and expected to yield expected 100mpg. By using using lightweight materials and streamlining the aerodynamics, the company will use low-resistance tires in order to raise the performance level.
When? Bright Automotive expects to begin selling them late 2012 in the U.S., globally later. So why showing the vehicle in Washington DC? The company needs to secure $400 million in Department of Energy, DoE loans.
Makes you wonder if we can go up there and ask for some money. But more seriously, we are happy to see another company with plans and a prototype cementing the fact that the electric drive is here to stay.
