Subaru Electric Vehicle Future

We’re fond of Subaru here at Electricnick because of their vehicle’s sturdiness and the fact that 97.7% of all Subarus are still on the road today.  That’s why news of the company successfully embracing the electric drive revolution puts it at the head of the pack.

The gist Subaru has manufactured good quality cars whose reputation for winning races and being robust have always shown.  However, when we found out in July of last year that the company was working on Re1 electric vehicle, EV, we rejoiced.  We will need sturdy little cars in the future, there is not other way around that.

Stella, Charges Sales Up.  We asked the question whether or not Subaru could find a place in the ever increasing busy world of EVs, and we feel it will.  According to GreenCarCongress, Fuji Heavy expects to surpass its 100-unit first-year sales target for the Stella with corporate buyers.  Yes, 100 cars isn’t much, but it’s not only a beginning but a clear message that fleets have a need for them.

Technically speaking, the car is following the lithium battery pack technology and can squeeze 85% of its 50-mile range in 15 minutes, which is not bad and certainly sufficient for most people.  As a reminder, about 80% of the U.S. population drive less than 40 miles a day.

Final thoughts, many Subaru aficionados will scratch their heads and wonder what ever happened to their favorite brand with little electric cars, as the Stella.  The Stella is one step in the right direction and it isn’t far fetched to expect beefier models down the line.  In the end, startups have shown us they can shake the grounds with performance beasts but mainstream can actually mass produce cars, if only they can figure out a viable business model around EVs.
