Seems no matter where you look these days, everyone is talking electric drive, electric vehicle, EV of some sort and embracing electrons as propelling cars, motorcycles, trucks, boats and even airplanes.
The gist a year ago, no one ever thought hybrid, HEV or pure electric vehicle, EV would play a role with trucks and let alone electric drive. Fast forward 2009 and companies are actively working on it. What a difference a year makes. Ford says it is ready to make it’s electric delivery van. Peterbilt is working on an HEV garbage truck.
Newton Turns To Electricity. The Tanfield Group has merged with Smith Electric Vehicles US Corp., according to AutoBlogGreen and wants to begin building the Newton, as shown above. The truck should be powered by lithium iron phosphate (LiFePo4) batteries from Valence Technologies.
Public transportation Eyes Electricity. And if the trucks hadn’t caught your attention, you have noticed for the past few years in major cities, more and more hybrid buses have made their ways on the road. The Proterra begun a 4-city “California Clean Bus Tour” with its EcoRide B35 all-electric lightweight, composite-bodied bus that can use a 10 minute recharge capacity from TerraVolt™ Energy Storage System using batteries from Altairnano, and motors from UQM Technologies.
Well, you get the gist. We look forward hearing more about electric trucks as this should greatly change the public’s mind about them. Things are not only moving for electric cars in general, but buses, trucks, mototorcycles, etc. My, it’s the 30’s all over again!
[...] Jalopnik. The entry level will get you 60 miles, with an option for a 100 mile range available. Smith Electric Vehicles will install the batteries, power control module, and 50 KW drive [...]
