Electric motorcycles are starting to make their introduction in the EV world, not only as do it yourself projects but as more and more companies offer ground up products.
The gist is making an EV car is one thing. Space and weight are not as much issues as with a motorcycle. Working on electrifying a two wheel vehicle, is a totally different ball game. We have covered ZeroMotorcycle here and briefly Brammo, so we are particularly happy to welcome yet another player in the field, the Mission One electric motorcycle from Mission Motors.
Tapping Performance. There have been some incredible electric motorcycle dragster performance in the past. The KillaCycle we covered here, should spell in no uncertain way, electric motorcycle will give their gas cousins a race for their money. Until now, motorcycles have played herman hermits to accommodate batteries for their electric drive. So welcome another player who will make a big splash in the pond, the Mission One by Mission Motors which promises to be the world’s fastest 100% electric production motorcycle, reaching speeds of 150mph, according to Gizmodo.
Technically speaking, Yves Behar of OLPC built the aluminum, honeycomb body fame and wants to use lithium batteries that can recharge in 2 hours and good for 150 miles. According to Forbes, Mission Motors, the company behind the Mission One is no stranger to EV start up since its founder, Forrest North, started the company a few months after leaving Tesla, where he worked on the battery packs. North knows a thing or two about launching an EV from a Silicon Valley company.
Bringing out an EV motorcycle to the world in one sense is easier since there is less to work with. The Mission One promises riders will be able to customize and control their performance, such as how the throttle and breaks respond wirelessly from a computer. What do people say about the prototype? “You get into a flow easier, and you are connected to raw torque.”.
Alright, we are sold. Oh, the price? The first batch will be around $69,000 and will make fun of a lot of its competition.

[...] Old School Companies Go Electric. And here is the best part, KTM is working on a prototype, according to AutoBlogGreen. KTM entering the field is a serious warning that motorcycles are embarking on a new journey here. KTM doesn’t do things halfway. Consider the bike will weigh under 200 pounds with nearly 30 lb-ft of torque available by 2010. Honda is also working on a hybrid, and yes, a fuel cell one. And less you wanted to see what other start ups are doing, we suggest you check out Zero Motorcycles we briefly covered here, the eKRAD with its A 21 kilowatt or 28hp electric engine with 72 volts and Quantya with its 48 volts and 40Ah. Of course, lets not forget the new kid on the block with high hopes, Mission One. [...]
