Electric Vehicles Renewable Energy and Storage News

With much speculation about it being for real, it looks like Aptera is finally bringing out its intriguing electric vehicle, EV and plug-in hybrid, PHEV out the door before the end of the year.

The gist, we have already covered Aptera many times here, but speculations whether the startup actually had a product abound.  That was, until now.  We met a few people who had reserved cars, but nothing more than that.

Production Ready Rolling Out.  According to GreenTechMedia: “The first pre-production version of the 2e — the three wheeled car designed by Aptera — emerged from the factory today.”  With a 100 miles range and 90 mph, it will go from zero to 60 mph in 10seconds and cost 25,000 and $45,000, depending on options, EV or PHEV.

If You Build, Will The Buy It? And that bis the question.  Though Aptera has taken deposits, it hasn’t shown up anywhere at car meets, no parades, and we can’t recall seeing it outside of press pictures.  Aptera is banking on its car design and engineering to sway customers.

With a shape like this, we can surely bet you will be the only one o the block.  With its aerodynamic look and performance to match its design, the electric version and PHEV makes sense to start its life in California, hot bed of unusual cars and nurturing ground to prototypes.

We hope the Aptera works but the little company faces great challenges, as most startups do.  It needs a lot of funds to have a facility that can build them en masse.  It needs funds to advertise.  it has done most of the hard work, the engineering.  It just needs to sell them.  Interested anyone?
