Chrysler’s Electric Future

Who knows where Chrysler will be tomorrow.  Nonetheless, it has promising hybrids, HEV, plug-in hybrids, PHEV and electric vehicle, EV concepts.

The gist, Chrysler has an uncertain future.  It’s too bad because the company has surprised us many times last few months. Is it too little, too late?  We’ll let you decide.

Chrysler, The Electric Car Company.  What a shock it was seeing the sleek little electric sports car prototype introduced.

Dodge, The Hybrid Car Company.  And what another surprise it was to see an HEV minivan and Jeep.

and

Chrysler, The Phoenix Company? But can Chrysler actually produce any of these vehicles?  That is the question.  Talks about merging with another company, makes sense for the cash strapped company.  With now talks of another Jeep Patriot PHEV, sporting a 200hp electric engine, according to Motor Trend,  there will be a need for an ally.

More news about it here with AutomobileMag.

Chrysler, The PHEV Sedan Company. Probably this year’s big surprise was the plug-in hybrid, PHEV 200C, much like the Volt.  CarMagazine UK has to say about it: “a good looking little brother to the firm’s successful 300C”.

The Burning Question.  Will it ever happen?  Of course, there is no answer to this at the moment.  Let’s draw a most likely case scenario. Chrysler uses the $4 billion bailout, get another $10, it won’t be enough to restructure and produce those cars.  So it will have to merge, most likely.  Who are the candidates?  So far, it seems GM is out of the picture.  That leaves a possible entente with Nissan.  And that would spell probably the biggest car company in the world, with Renault, well established in Europe, Nissan in Asia and Chrysler in the U.S.
