Here is a snapshot of the world of electric vehicles, EV and related technologies.

Mercedes Stretches Into Electric Future.  Mercedes seems to have awaken to EVs and now has 3 drivertains for its modular design that can accommodate a gas-electric, battery electric or hydrogen fuel-cell compact five-seater with its BlueZero concept, according to Wired.

ZENN Comes To The Spotlight.  We hadn’t heard from the ZENN car in a while but according to Sun, it is being tested at the Mid-Del Technology Center in Oklahoma.

GM Abroad Is Doing Well… Kind Of.  While GM in the U.S. is in dire straights, GM Europe has teamed up with the Spanish Iberdrola to develop plug-in hybrids, PHEV, according to Auto Press. Wait a second.  We thought they were called extended range electric vehicles, EREV now.

Th!nk In Trouble.  According to Forbes, the Norwegian electric car company, makers of the Th!nk have admitted to being in “urgent financial distress.”  The firm will lay off up to 70.0% of its staff and had hoped to restart production of its car, Think City, in the first quarter of next year.

Carlos Gohsn, New Electric Car Czar.  It might have taken a little nudge from Better Place to convince Ghosn that the future lie in EV, the CEO as become one of its strongest proponents, according to WehoNewsIn a keynote speech at the Los Angeles Auto Show last week, Mr. Ghosn (pronounced like “phone” but with a “g”) wants 10 percent of the world’s annual vehicle sales to be electric cars by 2020.  It has to start somewhere.
